What makes Manuka honey so special?
Where does manuka honey come from?
Manuka honey is produced in Australia and New Zealand by bees that have gathered nectar from the native leptospermum bush. Australians have called manuka honey by many names including Tea tree and Jellybush honey as well. The plant’s origins began in Tasmania and dispersed to Victoria, along the east coast of Australia, and as well as to New Zealand. There is documented evidence that Australians were the first to produce manuka honey, dating back to 1884 and since then have found over 86 species of leptospermum bush. Some varieties of the leptospermum bush in Australia prove to produce higher activity (i.e. health benefits) or to be on par with the well-known New Zealand manuka honey.
How does Manuka Honey differ from other types of honey?
The nectar of the Leptospermum genus gives Manuka honey its methylglyoxal (MGO) properties that attribute to the potency of health benefits within the honey. This MGO rating number signifies real manuka honey that has been batch tested within a lab to measure the purity, quality and antibacterial characteristics. HONEY OF NOOSA offers manuka honey in MGO graded for everyday health use at MGO 30+, MGO100+, and MGO graded for medicinal healing use at MGO 250+.
When it comes to the MGO rating, what is the difference between MGO30+, 100+, & MGO250+ ?
HONEY OF NOOSA recommends MGO 30+, and MGO 100+ for fortifying the immune system to prevent sickness and other holistic health benefits. Whilst MGO 250+ is best used as healing sickness, or for topical healing on burns, sores, ulcers.

What is raw honey?
All our honey has preserved the natural integrity within the honey. Therefore the full health benefits of pollen, enzymes, propolis and amino acids can also be found. Throughout the honey extraction, the only processing is simply uncapping each honeycomb cell and filtering out any debris that may be leftover from the bees.
What makes manuka honey healthier than other honeys on the market?
The manuka nectar can only be gathered by the bees in the short flowering time spans in the year, therefore it can only be harvested as in a limited batch production in those few months that it blossoms. Also, other honeys’ lack the special health benefits in manuka honey that help to support overall health, healing and digestion.
